If you are just now hearing about Poshmark, you’re late.
But, don’t worry, this post will catch you up on what you need to know to make more sales and more money on Poshmark.
I put off selling or even buying on Poshmark for forever. Truly, I’m not sure why. I buy lightly used clothes on Ebay all the time, so really, it shouldn’t be that different.
But it is! And shopping on Poshmark is so much easier and more user-friendly than Ebay.
But, the whole idea of selling clothes really frightened me. I have to pack and ship stuff. And take lots of pictures and measurements on pants, etc. Seems like a lot of hard work.
Truth be told, if you want to sell your clothes on Poshmark, there is a lot of work that has to happen.
But, that’s why I’m here with the breakdown. I want your experience to be (almost) effortless. You should enjoy it AND be able to make a bit of side money from the clothes you don’t wear.
Who knows? Maybe you will decide to turn this into your full-time gig.
So, read on if you want to find out how to sell your clothes fast and make more sales on Poshmark.

10 Tips to Make More Sales on Poshmark
Take Nice Photos
Poshmark is a shopping app with a strong focus on aesthetic and first impressions. Aren’t all shopping websites? So, the key to grabbing the attention of potential buyers is to have great photos.
Consider this: if you are selling a white blouse from Zara and someone looks that exact phrase up, how many items do you think they will find? TONS!
There are primarily two ways to take photos, 1). flat lay or 2). on a mannequin/person. The first one is easier, but not necessarily better. It’s completely up to you which option you prefer.
If you like the idea of using a mannequin, this one is affordable, sturdy, has adjustable height options, and includes installation instructions.
But, the idea is to stick with it. Just like Instagram, you want your closet feed to have a feel. You want people to recognize your items and your images.
For example, in my closet, I use flat lay photography to photograph my clothes. I keep the background clean and aesthetically pleasing, either using my hardwood floors or a fluffy white blanket.
Make sure your photos are well lit and showcase the item in a realistic, but also in a very nice way.
I plan on writing a post in the future detailing all the best ways to photograph clothes for Poshmark. If you would like to know when that post comes out, you can subscribe to my newsletter below.
Be Competitive with Prices
Okay, so your photos are going to be the first thing that someone seems. But next, they are likely going to look at the price. This is why you have to do your research and price items competitively.
When you have something you want to list for sale on Poshmark, get on the app and search for the same item. You will likely find the exact same item or some that are very similar.
If most of the items similar to yours in condition are priced at $30, keep your price right around that area. You can go up a little to compensate for potential offers.
But, if you are going to price your items higher than the majority of items similar to yours, I suggest you put in extra work making your photos and descriptions top notch.
Share, Share, Share
The number one thing you will hear if you search for how to sell on Poshmark is “share”. And people aren’t just saying it for no reason.
Poshmark is different from Amazon or Ebay because it’s a mashup of eCommerce and a social site. And Poshmark values and prioritizes those who are active on the app.
This means sharing your own listings and sharing listings from other sellers. There are mixed reviews about how often you should share your closet, but most people say a minimum of 3 times per day.
Share all of your listings to your followers once in the morning, once in the afternoon and once in the evening.
For other people’s listing, try to share those that pop up on your home feed first. These are just shared, meaning if you share their listing, they are more likely to still be on the app and share yours back.
Follow People Every Day
Head to any of the Poshmark Ambassador’s closet. You will notice that they likely have over 100k followers, but they are also following 100k+.
It can be challenging to keep up with, but try to follow back anyone who follows you.
On top of that, you should also head to the menu and click the “Find People” option. This will pull up a way to filter who you are looking for and a list of Poshmark Ambassadors to follow.
I highly recommend you follow all of the Poshmark Ambassadors on this list. It will update every few hours. So my rule is that every time I get on the app, I head to this menu and follow all of the ambassadors listed.
But, also follow other people who have similar brand interests as you and people who are new to Poshmark. I try to follow around 200+ people per day. It’s super quick with the lists of people, you can just scroll down and click the blue follow button beside their name.
Targeted Following
This is a ‘pro-tactic’ to get more sales on Poshmark that I learned from a YouTube video. To get the best idea of how this works, I’m going to present a scenario.
You list a pair of black peep-toe heels from Steve Madden. You have done your research and priced them fairly. Now, it’s time to target people who are interested in this product.
There are two ways to do this. One is quite aggressive and requires more work, and the other is quick.
The quick and easy way is to head to find people tab, then click my brands. Search ‘Steve Madden’ in the search bar and then follow A LOT of people from that list.
The idea is that those people will follow you back and when you share your Steve Madden shoes, they will be interested and want to buy them.
This method is not as promising as the next, but still a good way to gain exposure to a crowd that may be interested in what you are selling.
The second method is a bit more aggressive in terms of targeting. In this method, you will go find the exact same pair of shoes you listed, listed by someone else.
Under the description, you will see who all has liked that listing, meaning they are already interested in those shoes.
Now, follow those people. You can repeat this as many times as you like for the same item. Again, there is no guaranteed sale, but it can definitely be worth your while to give it a try.
Share Outside of Poshmark
One way to make more sales on Poshmark is to share your listed items on sites outside of the app. Poshmark makes it easy to share your listing to Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and Pinterest.
I personally prefer Pinterest as I don’t think it’s as pushy as Instagram or Snapchat. But that’s just personal preference. Also, Pinterest is great for long exposure as pins are constantly circulated and new content doesn’t disappear after a day.
Also, you can set up all of your newly listed items to be instantly added to Pinterest. They show up on Pinterest as long, vertical collages of the photos you took of your item.
And, Poshmark will create a board specifically for your listing if you allow it. I personally turned off the feature to post shares from other sellers to Pinterest. Again, this is up to you. I want my Poshmark board on Pinterest to be a place for people to shop my closet, not those of other sellers.
List New Items Frequently
This may seem like a challenge if you are solely working with clothes from your own closet. But, let’s make it work.
If you pull 20 items from your closet that you are ready to list on Poshmark, you can list five or six now and then save the rest to list every few days. I try to add 2-3 new items every 2-3 days.
Obviously, if you are only taking from your own closet, you will run out of items sooner or later. At this point, focus on the other tips in this post to get the most sales and make the most money.
TIP: Do you have a sister or a couple really close friends? If so, ask them if they have any clothes that they need to get rid of. I have done this and have received an entire bag of free clothes that I can turn around and list for 100% profit on Poshmark.
Be Thorough with Your Descriptions
There is nothing worse as a potential customer than finding an item that you love and looking at the description to find nothing but a rehash of the title.
Try to add as much value to your description as possible. Many people don’t have the patience or desire to leave a comment asking a specific question about a product.
Some things to include in your description:
- If it’s new with tags or used
- If it’s used, what is the condition (Excellent, Good, Fair, etc.)
- Materials in the item
- Inseam
- Overall length
- Color or design description
You can also add your personality here. Why do you like the product? Or, be a personal stylist and recommend what you think the item would pair well with.
Sometimes, when people can visualize an entire look in their head, they see the potential in an item they were otherwise meh about, and suddenly they realize they need it.
Invest in the Experience of Your Customers
This one is definitely more geared towards those who want to eventually make a significant amount of money from the app.
Think of items you have purchased from Amazon. Now, have you ever purchased from an Etsy shop or a small online business? Can you think of any differences?
So, if you are in it for the long haul, get some nice packaging materials to make the customer experience enjoyable and memorable. If they remember getting a specific item from you, they are likely to come back and shop from your closet again.
I purchased white tissue paper for wrapping clothing items, some cute packaging stickers that say “You Have Great Taste”, and Thank You Cards. Each time I make a sale I use these items and I personalize the Thank You card and leave my Poshmark handle on there.
These items are extra expenses, and I know some people don’t want to buy things they don’t need. I understand. But, if you plan on turning this into a business, there will be times where you have to invest money in your business.
Down the road, this could be getting a new camera, backdrop, mannequin, or even hiring an assistant. So, consider investing in these items as investing in yourself and your future.
Send Offers to Likers Immediately
If someone likes an item you listed, it means the item is fresh in their mind. If you want to make more sales on Poshmark, this tip is a game-changer.
I used to wait a few days until I had racked up a number of likes on an item to send an offer to the likers. But, by this time, many of those people have already moved on and forgot about the item.
Once you receive a notification that someone liked your item, immediately send them an offer. To do this, you must offer at least a 10% discount on the item and at minimum a small shipping discount.
Again, this goes back to pricing your items competitively. You need to leave yourself some wiggle room so that when you get likes, you can provide a better offer to the buyer.
If you can squeeze it into your margins, I recommend offering the minimum of 10% with free shipping.
According to multiple reports, and this chart on Stamps.com found that free shipping was the most effective holiday sales promotion.
So, if you can price your items a little higher than the competition in anticipation of likes and offers, you can offer free shipping, which can tip people who are on the edge of buying over into the paying customer category.
